Nearby Places

Find every city, town, or village within a radius of a place or coordinate — sorted by distance, with population and timezone for each.

Selected: Munich, Germany

Example

Center: Munich, Germany · Radius: 25 km

→ Munich, Bogenhausen, Unterföhring, Ismaning, Garching bei München…

What This Tool Does

  • Every populated place within a chosen radius of a point, sorted by distance.
  • Population and IANA timezone for each result.
  • A one-click link to open any result's country pre-filtered in the Dataset Builder.

Common Use Cases

  • Scoping a delivery or service radius around a city and seeing every town it would cover.
  • Researching nearby population centers for a site-selection or market-sizing exercise.
  • Building a shortlist of nearby towns to seed a store locator or regional dataset.

How It Works

  1. Search by place name or enter coordinates directly to set the center point.
  2. Choose a radius from 1 km up to 200 km.
  3. Results list every populated place found, nearest first, up to 50 results.

Radius search
Finds every record within a fixed distance of a center point, as opposed to a nearest-neighbor search that returns only the single closest match.

FAQ

How is this different from Reverse Location Lookup?

Reverse Location Lookup answers "what is the single nearest place to these exact coordinates?" — this tool instead browses everything within a radius you choose, up to 200 km, as a full sortable list rather than one highlighted match.

What's the maximum search radius?

200 km. Results are capped at 50 places, nearest first, to keep the list genuinely useful rather than overwhelming.

Can I search from a place name instead of coordinates?

Yes — switch to "Search by Place" and type a city name; the search runs from that place's coordinates as the center point.

Are all place types included, or just cities?

Only populated places (cities, towns, and villages) — the same real-settlement scope used across GeoDataKit's location tools, not administrative regions or other feature types.
